I am fitting an SB engine from a Passat into our T25 and it has the a Garret water cooled turbo fitted which I may use if I can find any info on the water cooling .Has anyone any experience of these?
Question I can't find ans. to.
is it cooled all the time,or is does it operate along the lines of the auxiliary water pump and only have water flowing for a short period after the engine is stopped?
Will not plumbing the water cooling in shorten its life ?
If it does need the coolant connecting where is it taken from, and will the drain into the block still work when the engine is tilted over at 55 degree angle?
I have seen Synchroandy's (excellent) post but he used a K14 turbo for some reason.
Any help or links greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Fitting A 1.6 SB engine-which turbo to use ?
just about to fit a sb into a previous aaz conversion but the aaz had used the aaz manifolds and turbo so going to be using as much sb stuff as possible , did you keep the water cooled turbo

Hi,
Kept the SB turbo (Obviously needs re-indexing).
Sadly it was letting oil past the seals.Apparently the turbo can be O.K when upright in a car but not when tilted over in a van.
Ran it for a couple of months and it was great(apart from the oil leak).
Switched to a JX turbo which came up cheap and if I am honest I can't tell the difference.Maybe a little less power at high revs, but I tend to be gentle on the old girl anyway so not an issue for me.
Good luck with the install.
Drop me a line if you have any questions.
