Agg gti vs aaz

Post by T25_steveo »

Hi all I'm after a few opinions. I believe my 1.6 td Jx may be cooked although I haven't inspected it yet, she still starts runs etc but head gasket is gone she's leaking water from the back of the head between engine and block. Anyway as the Jx is getting harder to come by I'm thinking of just doing a conversion. However I'm stuck between doing the golf gti conversion or the aaz. Was wondering what other people's opinions would be on what might've the best conversion. I'm very mechanically minded having done lots of clutches, gearboxes, engine changes etc. Would appreciate the advice. Thanks

AGG/ADY gives you a lot more than the AAZ does but not as economical.
Good AAZ monitors are getting hard to find now.

Think I'm going to have better luck sourcing the agg engine. Economy is not a major factor TBH as it's not a daily driver. Although from what I've read there's not a huge difference in fuel consumption. I would be happy with 25mpg.

Thanks for that mate. I did spot that but the mileage is a little high for me if I'm honest.

I have been running a 1.8 20v for over a year now using it daily as a work van. I would say 25mpg would be the lower end of the fuel consumption. I regulary hit 30mpg if i drive using the vacume gauge.
It will happily cruse at 70+ mph on the motorway.
I see no future for the 1.6 or 1.9 td engines unless you insist on keeping it standard then you only have 1 option.

Thanks for the info. How do you go about using the vacuum gauge. I think the gti conversion is going to be the one plus I got a 1.6td as a base so it makes sense tbh.

ADY or AGG came from golf/passat/vento/sharan of mid/late 90s. AGG from mk3 Golf is by far most common.

Mk3 shape cabriolets with knackered roof are good cheap source.

Vacume gauge is conected vai a t piece on cut in to any of the vacume lines on the inlet manifold. I know of a car that is for sale with a low milage engine if needed. I can make a couple of calls if needed. Where about are you?

The gauge wont inprove your mpg but it will allow you to moniter how you drive. Have a google driving with a vacume gauge.
