Rebuild automatic gearbox - how much

Post by Sir Brixalot »

The garage that said they could fix my van by replacing the o ring behind 2nd gear piston cover now say I'll need it rebuilt. Has anyone done this recently and can you tell me how much it cost?

Not had it done, but I heard a figure of seven to eight hundred mentioned a few of years ago.So I would think you should budget for about a grand at least.

Had one quote of 1200 plus vat - seems very steep.. Might be better to try find a known 2nd hand box and get it fitted although theres no warranty that way. I remember seeing a rebuilt one on Ebay last year and If Id had the space I would have bought it

I got one sitting in the garden, took it out to change to 4 speed manual gearbox. Done 180 thou miles but was good, you can have it if you pay for shipping.

That's really good of you. I'll look for a quote for shipping, I'd imagine it will be about 100kg?. Is it good enough to put straight on. I'll ring around and see how much it would cost to fit

If any of the traders on her can tell me size and weight I'd be grateful. There is a choice of full or oversize full pallet

Thanks MR T by the time I got a German box fitted and over here it would be too expensive.

If any of the specialists on here can pm me a quote for fitting a 2nd hand box I'd be grateful
