Ok got the brackets today on which the paint is currently drying, I'm hoping the mirrors will turn up tomorrow then I can get them on! Just one thing do you guys put anything between the bracket and the door? I'm thinking it might mark the paint without some sort of gasket or am I just being paranoid?

I used the existing rubber mount and an additional 5mm shim so it sits nice and flush to bodywork.

I see you've got the arm set at 45 rather than 90, is there a reason?

Optical illusion. But the passenger side is @ 45, for better view of the whole side of the bus.

I now got some "rowlsey" brackets which I've now painted. They are very nicely made brackets. I've tried putting them on the mirrors I got from Paddock using M6 CSK stainless bolts. Upon tightening up all the bolts started to slip and I really wasn't applying much pressure. It's like I've stripped the thread in the mirrors :-( Rowlsey thought they should be M6.

I remeasured the bolts and they are indeed standard M6 threaded with 1mm pitch. When I put them on their own in the mirror they are actually slightly loose so I've clearly got the wrong thread and probably damaged the mirrors which is very annoying, either that or the Paddock mirrors are made of chocolate metal.

Out of interest what thread is correct?

I think you will find they are 1/4 UNF

1/4" = 6.35mm! That explains the problem.

I'll get a tap and clean the thread up and hope it's okay.

Thanks!

1/4" UNF is 28TPI thread. That's a pitch of ~0.9mm so the metric bolt wasn't far off, just too thin. There is hope yet!
