Starter Motor - Repair/replace?

Post by jacobjoe »

Hi all,

I'm pretty sure my starter motor has had it, it had been intermittent for a few months (sometimes just getting a click and nothing from the engine). But for the past month I've had nothing - finally got time to get out and have a decent look today and all connections look clean and OK. Tried to remove it to have a better look but the two bolts holding it in place are in the most awkward places giving no room to move the spanner and they won't budge! Any tips on getting these off?

There's a lot of talk of simple repairs/cleaning them up so will give this ago when I get it off, again any tips on what to look for?. If not, anyone know where I can get a decent replacement or a part number?

It's a AAZ 1.9 TD engine. The battery is about 1 year old and has been given a full charge.

Of course, if I'm looking in the wrong place, shout :)

Cheers!

The starter motor is accessible from the open hatch
Just 2 bolts holding it in .
Remove the 2 bolts and lever the slave cylinder
out of the way . Don't forget to disconnect the battery

Thanks, I've found the two bolts just where they sit doesnt give me much leverage on the spanner. I'll give it another go though

Try laying a plank or two across the open hatch, allows you to get closer without leaning on the engine, and maybe get more leverage?
Have you ever seen an unhappy fool?

Keep at it , it's simple enough,
It was one of the first jobs I ever done
also with no experience .
Took me half the day to do it
First time, now I find i can do it in
minutes . It's awkward but stay at it
you'll get it in the end. :ok
