Rear fog light not working

Post by OddJobBob »

My van has just failed it MOT on many things including the rear fog light.
I've had the rear cluster off to check. With the head lights on, I flick the fog light switch. The tell tale light on the switch comes on but there is nothing at the light cluster. No voltage at all. I've checked the 15A fuse at position 6 (late fusebox) and this is present and intact.
I've looked at Haines and there is mention of a relay J5 at postion 7 on the fuse plate. I don't have a relay here and don't remember having had a relay here. The van has never failed an MOT on fog light before. I'm assuming the earths are ok as all the other lights on the cluster work OK.
Do I need a relay? Could something else be wrong? Haines mentions "S27 - separate fuse for rear fog light". Where is this and could it be the problem? Help. Its going to cost me money to get the front wishbone bushes done so I would like some self satisfaction in fixing somethings myself!

Cheers

Is it LHD? If so it might not have had one originally and had one added when imported. Most likely the wire that runs from the switch to the light has snapped.. Someone had cut mine!

Thanks for the reply. Its RHD and always has been. I've had it 5 years and this is the first time its failed on fog lights. Electrics is really not my bag!

Fuse 27 is above the relays the one with grey/white wires. The relay is not always fitted just a link

Thanks for the replies bigherb and kevtherev. After an hour or so with the multimeter and fusebox hanging off and having checked every fuse present in the fusebox, I've have just had the sudden realisation that I "borrowed" a 10A fuse from the top of the fusebox to replace a fuse I blew elsewhere many many months ago. Had you not taken the time to reply to my question, I would still be outside now! I'm most embarrassed!

Thanks
