Webasto 2000
Hi we are trying to fit the Webasto Airtop 2000 SCT today and reading the instructions it says we have to draw the fuel from the fuel tank seperate from the main fuel pickup. On my syncro I'd hope to take the fuel by tapping into the fuel filter or the fuel return line. Can anyone tell me if it is okay to do this without negatively affecting either supply to Webasto or JX engine?!

Re: Webasto 2000
Our Eber is tapped in as you describe with no ill effect. It's usually saying that you shouldn't tap into a fuel line that is pressurised, rather you should use the return line. However the installer that did ours ignored this but we've had no problems.

Re: Webasto 2000
ok thanks for the quick response, it's getting dark! we will put it on the intake like your installer did and that's how Jed does it on his CC video too. If it fails I think I'll just buy an aux 12L tank.

Re: Webasto 2000
I fitted the T peice after the fuel filter on our Eber D2. From memory it is recommend to use the correct size hose from the fuel source to the heater.

Re: Webasto 2000
Only need a separate pick up if you have an in tank pump - as most modern vehicles are thus they don't give the old option of teeing off the the feed or return from the tank. 2mm bore max fuel pipe to and from the the heater pump. Only use the return if the return goes to the lower regions of the tank.

Re: Webasto 2000
Westfalia fitted a T piece just a few inches from the main fuel tank outlet, this is non pressurized. I wouldn't be entirely happy tapping in to the leak off (return side) on a diesel, without studying the layout I would have thought fuel flow would be restricted on this side without a running engine? you need the unrestricted supply side surely as Westfalia used with their Ebberspacher installs, before the filter (the heater probably has its own inline filter anyway)

Re: Webasto 2000
It is fine to use the return - with the proviso that the return will need to run to the lower regions of the fuel tank. There are details in the literature somewhere.

Re: Webasto 2000
Because when the engine/pump is off, the fuel for the heater will be running "backwards" through the return line, from the tank to the heater.
