NO dipped beam
Hi,the other night my headlights went off, rocked the switch/tapped the dash etc, nothing.switched engine off, then re-started the van & lights came back on.
when I got home noticed the headlights flickering a bit on the garage door.
anyway, went to use the van again Monday night & NO dipped beam.sidelights work & hi beam flashes but wont stay on.I've cleaned the earth crowns & replaced All the terminals,,earth is good.there is a good earth on headlight plug too.have even fitted a new switch from Brickwerks.... still no lights.
have bridged a wire from the feed on the plug on the back of the light switch to terminal 56(think this is the power to the lights) Hey presto, the dipped beam comes on..could this point to a dodgy switch or something else.
any ideas would be appreciated .
cheers Kev

Re: NO dipped beam
It could be a faulty ignition switch. Check the black/yellow wire at the light switch, if there is no power there with the ignition switched on and the lights not working then the the ignition switch is faulty.

Re: NO dipped beam
When that happened to me on a dark wet night it was the light switch gone faulty.
I dismantled it and got it working again. The contacts had heated up and melted some of the plastic a bit. I also fitted two relays to take the load off the switch so it wouldn't happen again. Lights were brighter too!
Take care if you're dismantling the switch, as it's full of little springs and flying bits of metal.

Re: NO dipped beam
I DO have power at going into the light switch. If I bridge a wire from the live into the plug, to terminal 56 which is the feed out of the plug to the lights. they work, bigherb wrote:It could be a faulty ignition switch. Re: NO dipped beam
You should have two power feeds into the light switch one for the sidelights and one for the headlights.tyneside-t25 wrote: I DO have power at going into the light switch.

There are '2' terminal No 30 on the back of the switch,,,, should both of these have a live feed ?bigherb wrote:You should have two power feeds into the light switch one for the sidelights and one for the headlights.tyneside-t25 wrote: I DO have power at going into the light switch.

Happened to me recently. Fitted new switch and lights worked perfectly again.
