Brake nipple snapped!

Post by Squeezebox »

Oh...dear...oh dear...oh dear.... :(

Brake nipple snapped off (front disc, right side), totally and completly flush with the caliper

I was suspicious of it....and hoped it would be ok...but nope...crumbled up into bits!

Got most of the nipple out and there is some thread left in the caliper, but some of the thread seems damaged too.

Not sure I really want to know this...but....err...think I need a new/replacement caliper....don't I ? I have a replacement nipple ready, but it doesnt screw in the way I feel happy. In fact if I am honest, it doesnt really seal at all!

Can the caliper be drilled and re-threaded? Oversize nipple? (am I bonkers thinking this!).

Its one of the "ATE" type ones from what I can make out. Drivers side, and cant find one in stock on-line either at the moment.

Any ideas folks?

Anyone got a second hand one around?

AND....the irony is....today, this very morning in fact, I got the all clear from DVLA for a medical condition and they are allowing me to drive again....ho hum....not in my van obviously :(

Any help appreciated!

Try NW VW on here - He can probably help you out.
He probably has 2nd hand calipers in stock
