I have looked at the diagrams but can't see where it is on the van. I know I'm stupid so no comments please!

on the master cylinder.

There are actually two brake light switches (so that there is a redundancy for this component), both of which are attached to the master cylinder, which in itself is attached to the brake fluid reservoir located under the instrument binacle just behind the windscreen.

Not always, depends on what year it is.
