Fridge (RM184EGI) fans and temp display mod

So my fridge wasn't working on 240v, was rubbish on 12v (no shock there) and then packed up on gas!

Time for a service!!!

So out came the fridge (as per all previous threads ) and.....

1. New gas injector fitted previous one was well blocked!
2. Upside down for a few days which turned into weeks! & general clean up.
3. Fan upgrade done - 2x 80mm 12v computer fans, wired via the original fin thermal switch and also via an illuminated switch fitted to fridge front panel. (went with the illuminated switch cause the fans are so quite difficult to hear when on!!)
4. Wanted to know how the fridge is operating so fitted an internal thermometer with an external LED display also wired into the same illuminated switch. (didn't want the Led wasting battery when fridge not in use)

New set up pulls approx 0.7amps

HI,

For the replacement fans there are numerous choices, I went with these 80mm ones from amazon

These are 12v, are very quiet, have a high airflow (31CFM), only 0.24amps and get good reviews.
They are 3 wire (red/black/yellow) so yellow just needs cutting off (this is for if installed in a computer for it regulate speed of fan)
I went with a simple on/off switch but you could control the speed of the fan by varying voltage (5-12v) to it via a switch or dial (not necessary in my install).

The switch was from maplins and I went with the illuminated switch because the fans are so quiet and then i would know if on!

The thermometer was from eBay (prob not the most accurate? but small and neat)

This was wired via the original fin thermal switch and also the same illuminated fan switch from maplin and the probe inserted within the fridge via the thermostat capillary tube on the rear.



Whole set up including a bit of wiring/connectors/heat shrink cost less than £20 !!!

Help, Please!!!

Issue I have got... (Not with my mod/install but I think an issue that was present prior hence why I started the fridge service in the 1st place.

The 240v switch on the thermostat is broken! (white box with black wiring)

This is a joint gas and 240v thermostat on the RM184EGI (12v not controlled by the thermostat)

Seems to work fine on gas.
But the thermostat does not provide any 240v out to the 240v ON/OFF switch on the fridge front panel
I have confirmed there is 240v to the thermostat and what I can make out this pin (below) should be the 240v out which is wired to the On/Off switch?

I have bypassed the thermostat and wired the 240v direct to the main 240v on/off front panel fridge switch.
This then all appears to work correctly, when 240v switch on the front panel is switched on the 240v element heats up fine.

Can anyone see any issue with this?
Obviously its either on or off i.e full power or no power.
But to be honest I only ever had the thermostat set to high/full anyway!

(My other option is to source a replacement thermostat including capillary tube)
IrishKeet (Keith) has very kindly offered to help with parts but this involves him striping his own fridge!!!!
So before anything else is broken I wanted people opinions on the above solution?
