Oil change woes.....

Post by quattrodave »

Just carried out a service this weekend on my van, 1.6 TD jx, and when draining the oil a thumbnail piece of metal came out with it. Its very soft and bendy, looks like a piece of bearing shell to me :(
A few questions -
Should I be immediately concerned ( its not a daily driver) and it runs well with no bottom end knock and oil pressure light goes out after a few seconds
Can the sump be easily dropped to change the main bearings?
Should I just carry on on and do a 1y or aaz etc swap eventually ?
Just after a few suggestions please

Apparently the intermediate shaft bearings can break up and bits of the white metal flake off!!
Give the intermediate shaft pulley a wiggle?
I dont think, so I'm not[do I exist?]

It's the pulley below the injection pump,it's driven by the back of the camshaft belt, check for movement up and down.
Are you sure the metal is from the engine,I can't think of any bendy metal, apart from the bearing that could come from inside the engine and would a thumb nail bit of metal come through the oil drain hole?
Try not to worry!

Thanks I'll check that at the weekend
It's certainly non ferrous metal that bends in the fingers, the thumbnail size piece had folded over so it came out the drain hole quite easily :(
I'll keep my fingers crossed it's ok, but I might be kidding myself..........
