Rear wheel Bearing issues
Hoping for some help from rear wheel bearing guru's.
Van failed MOT on rear wheel bearing play.
Changed it today and still have slight play, what am i doing wrong, have done it three times in the past on my other van but have always had slight play afterwards.
Play is from 12-6 and 9-3 o'clock, slightly more play 12-6 than 9-3
I have pressed the outer bearing flush with the liip, should i press it slightly further to get rid of the last bit of play ?

Re: Rear wheel Bearing issues
Use FAG brand bearings. They have INA outers which is tight. All the others are less precise. Like the SKF had Torrington outers and they were rocking from new. Febi is also good as it has the INA outers

And if the housing at the inner is a bit worn (you can insert the bearing by hand) or the shaft is worn (you can press it in by hand) then you need bearing setting fluid

Aye, and it would be better if they did know. O.P. might have been wasting time and money because of it. My usual MOT garage have issued an advisory on mine every year, for yearsR0B wrote:There should be some play.A lot of MOT places don't know this.

I wonder if it's in print somewhere, goes off to look in the Haynes, I don't have a Bentley, wonder if it's mentioned in there.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
Re: Rear wheel Bearing issues
The original rear bearings should be good for at least 150 ,000 miles.

Re: Rear wheel Bearing issues
Is Bearing fit a similar product to threads lock? I appreciate that there are many types of thread lock and I'm not trying to avoid buying another, just curious as to what it is as I've never had to use it.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Unbelievably as it may seem, bearings have a fairly flat failure distribution curve so can fail at any time.

Kind of similar adhesives.
Brickwerks suggest and sell this Granville dual purpose one:

In my experience rear bearings last way longer than fronts.Titus A Duxass wrote:multisi wrote:The original rear bearings should be good for at least 150 ,000 miles.

They would do, the fronts have a lot of work to do.
