Zintec steel

Does anyone use it for repairs? Our vans were largely made of it by the looks of it. I left a bit of scrap panel with the paint removed that I'd been practiceing a shape with outside a couple of months ago,and its still bright and shiny.
Its a bit more expensive but I'm sort of wishing I'd used it on my repairs so far.
It does seem to take quite a lot of abuse including tight bends before it loses its surface.
Obviously welded and ground back areas are just back to mild steel .

I use it all the time at work and for my own little mobile welding business ,built in rust protection .

Welders at my work used to hate it, spits and pops when welding it.

Zintec....great stuff..

the surface is rolled on..not electroplated..

To weld easily in automotive repairs.... punch 8mm holes and plug weld..

or use a modern pulse MIG welding plant at about 14 volts..

I agree it's great stuff
I have some thats been unpainted in the window vents of my van for several years.
even the guillotined cut edges don't rust.

No longer use it at work I don't think it's RoHS compliant

There should be a law that says all repair panels should be made of it!
Are the vans zintec or something else? I dont think it was applied after pressing.

As with galvanized steel, this gives off some pretty noxious fumes, but I know you guys ALWAYS use proper air fed fume masks and work in well ventilated areas, so no problem!

Remember, cut edges and welded areas will still corrode so need to be touched up after working, preferrably straight away or as soon as is practicable.

(By the way, I think the protective finish is electroplated, but I stand to be corrected on that.)

Zintec sheet is a metal that has been electrolytically coated with a thin layer of zinc metal. The metal sheet base can be cold rolled sheet or coiled mild steel.
