different places to locate night heater

Hopefully will get a night heater Webasto 2000 or eberspacher D2 for my bus. But before I've bought it I may have a problem finding where to put it in van.

Originally intended to put it just in front of the rear bulkhead under the rock and roll seat. But I've put an inch thick birch floor in and insulation underneath that so unless am to rip out an area to put the heater am wondering is there anywhere else it can go like under twin passenger bench seat at front or maybe just in front of the engine compartment hatch.

I originally thought I could mount heater on the wooden floor but am told you can't do this..

Any ideas greatly appreciated ta!

Who on earth told you that you couldn't mount it on a wooden floor?
I supply the correct mounting plate for that very purpose with the heaters that I sell. You just have to cut a 4" x 5" rectangle through it all.

It was one of the main retailers of them. Thanks I guess I can either angle grind or jigsaw through. Mines a LHD and I've built my battery box right over the flat place where i think westfalia mounted them. But I've space on the other side if there is a suitable place. I need to get underneath and have a look. Are yours similar style diesel heaters, if so how much are they?

Have a look at the petrol ones in the for sale section - the diesels are roughly the same price.
I am not putting any diesels up for sale for a while though until I have cleared all the petrol ones as people have been waiting for a year whilst they were being tested.
I make the flange on the mounting plates to suit cutting straight through the lot with an angle grinder 4" x 5", cut the 5" first and the disc should have worn down to 4" by then. Loads of smoke from the wood though. The manufacturers mount for going through the wooden floor etc. has a circular flange which is a pain to cut the hole for.
That main dealer can't be very good if he said that! More likely didn't want to do it on an old van.

Really appreciate the advice. Shame I can't buy one of yours but maybe another time am in a real hurry to get something before I travel on 21st. Can I get a flange from you that sounds much less of a faff than a round one!

Can anyone tell me will a Webasto 2000 Air top or Eber D2 fit under the driver's or passenger seat with enough room for the ducting and enough air flow?

Currently nothing under either seat in my van. And In front of rear bulkhead is looking more and more problematic

Mine is mounted behind drivers seat (mines a RHD), on the floor and under the kickboard of cupboard. I have an access hatch in bottom shelf of cupboard should I need to get to, or even remove heater for servicing, and the heat comes out via a vent in the kickboard. This keeps it fairly quiet and completely out of sight in a spot that isn't overly useful for storage anyway. The other advantage is exhaust exits underneath on that side and nowhere near sliding door.

You do need to ensure you have good clearance between heater body and cupboard (2" on mine) but otherwise its a logical place to put it. Theres also just enough space to keep a mini trolley jack under there, plus jump leads - all stuff you hope you never have to dig out so good spot. Obviously this works better with a custom interior. I just measured everything and designed cupboard around it.

Thanks for the previous two messages. Both give lots of food for thought.
I am building a bespoke unit behind drivers and passenger seat that will be removable when not needed but is still a possibility.
The guys at Butler Technik got my heater to me super quick so now I've got it hopefully finding a place will be simpler. Great news you can mount onto wood, what if any mounting plate did you use?

So I think I've ruled out under front seats now and although unoccupied it will be too much fabrication to get them under. Army originally installed a coolant blower in the bulkhead between seats in cab so that place would be my preferred choice bit mayb safer to leave that heater as a back up rather than rip it out. So that leaves me back to under bench seat and redesign battery box so it can go on other side and fit Webasto on that flat plate by the S/L door probably will rip out an air top sized hole from the wood floor and make a wooden box to shroud heater so I can still use the storage space!

I guess the wonderful thing about designing your own interior is that it can always be chopped and changed to suit

Aye, and the only way to really get it spot on is to spend a lot of time using it. An easy way to keep everything tidy is paramount I'd say. In such a small space you have to give a great deal of thought to maximising it.

Yup after 2 years I can't wait to spend some time using as a camper!

Genius but sadly too late for my bus! Went down traditional route in the end and moved battery box and plans over to other side
