Please help!!!
I've read everything humanly possible on tuning the AAZ engine, but I'm still as confused??
I understand the fuel pump mods.
I understand the issues with the crank, change for 1Y and clutched alternator.
I understand fitting a bigger down pipe and exhaust, and intercooler will help.
I understand an oil cooler will help.
But, what turbo do I fit??
K03 to small?? K14, ok?? K24, to much lag?? And don't get me started on Garrett??
I've cooked the standard turbo. So want to play a bit? I don't want to race Porsches, but want a responsive driveable bus that'll stay in boost when I'm pulling up hills. I'd like a simple bolt on upgrade if possible?
I've been told 100/110bhp is very possible.
I'd appreciate any advice
Cheers!!

Re: AAZ tuning, bigger turbo.
If you want simple bolt on then your only real option is to replace your existing turbo like for like.
I'm running a garret gt1549 on my aaz on a 1z exhaust manifold, it faces the correct way to make the exhaust system short but it does mean fabricating an engine mount.

Re: AAZ tuning, bigger turbo.
Thanks for the response.
I'm still wanting to upgrade the turbo. I'd like something a bit bigger to give me a little more? I've been reading that a k14 is the way to go?
How much work is involved to make it work? I've got a local vw mechanic who's a wizz, so don't think it'd trouble him?

Re: AAZ tuning, bigger turbo.
I'm assuming that your running a k03 if you think the k14 is an upgrade. The easy way to a k14 is to fit all the jx stuff which makes it bolt on using off the shelf parts, however you end up with the worst flowing manifold you can fit and a turbo designed in the 70s.
The gt1549 is a decent turbo if you don't want any more that 110bhp it spools early I can actually get boost to pull away with and pulls well to around 4k the only downside is that it's on boost when cruising at 60 on the flat I'm boosting at just under 0.5 bar I have set max boost to 1.2 bar.
I'm currently working on the next engine for my van and will be looking to go with a holset possibly a hx27 or an he200wg buy I'm looking to get somewhere around 150 bhp with this one.
