Re: petrol to diesel what gearbox mounting
the correct set up is to use the 5 speed diesel mount and the diesel rear linkage though plenty on facebook will tell you you can use the petrol 5 speed mount and petrol rear linkage cos they have and it's fine
until it starts popping out of 5th gear
until it starts popping out of 5th gear
Re: petrol to diesel what gearbox mounting
whats the difference between the petrol and diesel 5 speed rear linkage? I'm guessing its longer?

Re: petrol to diesel what gearbox mounting
the diesel mount puts the gearbox higher in the chassis so the linkage is differently bent and the cup is deeper so that the throw of the ball is the same. The engines sit differently in the vehicle so the gearbox sits differently to accommodate that. The diesel rubber mount for the gearbox is larger diameter because the weight and the torque of the engine require better support and rotational damping

You're ears must have been burning on Facebook then
" diesel box fits mount higher, hence diesel rear rod having a dogleg in it to clear crossmember. With petrol front mount the nose will be angled down a tad, obviously big bolts on engine mounts allow engine to pivot forward and same with front mount being three pieces with bolt n bush. Only concern *might* be angle of box and engine. Never ever ever heard anyone suffering oil starvation due to angle of engine/box. Obvs VW did a different diesel mount for a reason. Aiden is the man so sure he will give you the ins and outs"
