I've noticed a mysterious clonking/knocking noise that seems to only happen after I've been driving for quite a while and then go slowly due to traffic/campsite etc.
Sat in the drivers seat, it's like it's coming from the wheel underneath me and sounds a bit like a nut loose in the hub cap that clonks every time the wheel goes round (it's not - I checked). It's a really loud clonk-clonk-clonk. It speeds up with the wheel speed and disappears / becomes hard to hear once you're going over about 15mph. I can't see any obvious reason for it and when I put the front on stands and turn the wheels its gone. It also doesn't seem happen on short journeys as I tried to reproduce it going round and round my village (the neighbours love me!) with no luck.
Any clues?

Re: Mysterious clonking noise
Usually a loud clonking is the cv joints on the the rear axles, it can sound as though it is coming from elsewhere.
Worth getting under there and checking that all the bolts are present and tight. Usually it is the outside ones, for some reason.
