Am I doing this right?

Post by killerme »

Doing a refurbishment of my late girling front brakes (1989 Joker T25 1.6TD) . Everything going according to plan so far, but looking at the caliper it looks as though the piston is now only covering about half of the back of the brake shoe. But I can't think of any other way for the brake to be attached. I'm sure it must be right - but it doesn't look too right! Also the bottom of the two springs on top of the brake shoe are just touching the disc. Also the wheel wouldn't go on at the moment because the caliper is too far out - though this is probably because I haven't bled the brakes yet and there is plenty of movement yet - the disc even turns.

I have included some before and after photos if anyone has experience of these. Sorry it isn't too clear but its hard to see clearly.

That all looks very wrong! It's hard to tell from the photos but the inside pad looks the wrong way round! Any chance of some better (bigger) photos?

OK cheers for your replies. I'll take it off asap (though I have to go to north coast tomorrow - in the car!!) As soon as I can, I'll take it off and show you what it looks like before I fit the caliper. Cheers - much appreciated

ffs you were right! I was so busy concentrating on the fit that I DID put the back one on wrong way round. Here's pick with the caliper off and both pads on right way round. Does this look good?

and again with caliper off from the top:

But it still looks like the piston is very high on the back of the pad - here's a pic of the caliper back on showing the level
