I've had the van since February and knew there were a few rust issues that would need addressing. The first pictures are from May when I filled holes in the offside rear panel.
Wire brushed then treated with Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 (same as vactan).
Filling
Painted
There was also a lovely hole in the offside outer sill so I patched that too as a temporary repair.
As you have probably already guessed the area behind this is perfectly solid with no holes whatsoever...

Present Day
I followed JonathanR's well-timed and informative post (http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=146617) on how he removed his Autosleeper interior.
Looks fine from here. The white paint is what I could access behind the fridge.
Oh.
Oh God.
Oh God no.
From the outside
Hole above jacking point
Offside wheel arch.
Nearside wheel arch.
Offside snorkel box.

With everything stripped back I took the van to John at VW Welding Services in Salford. Total cost for the work was £700.
The MOT is coming up so i'm going to treat and rustproof all the internal areas this weekend.

From what I can tell, it's from water sitting where the panel clips on. I've not had the window out so that could be another cause. I checked the other side today and it's exactly the same.
