Hi All,
I would be interested to know what everyones thoughts were on engine upgrades and improvements.
I have a 1600 Aircooled and would like to enhance the reliability, what upgrades or improveemtns would you all suggest?
can be the smallest thing to engine overhaul (ideally not an overhaul but can swap bits out for new bits)
order of priority would be interesting too.
regards
Arvon

Re: Engine Improvements or Upgrades
personallly, and not speaking from a great deal of experience:
1- Check and adjust timing (timing light costs approx #10)
2- Overhaul carburettor (kits start around #25)
3- cylinder head remachining to improve seal with cylinder liners without gasket (see link, seems an interesting prospect)

no doubt others with more experience will have more to add or advise but I thought Id kick it off

Re: Engine Improvements or Upgrades
Remove the 1600 engine and sell it to a beetle owner.
Fit a 2l Aircooled engine (CU) job done!
You will also need to swap the gearbox, but the cable bell housing from the 1600 box will fit a 2l box no prob.....easier than it sounds.
