Gearbox gone.

Post by Budgie7 »

Feel gutted just set off on holiday for the weekend , going to VW show at Uttoxeter and my auto gearbox has just packed up. So I had to limp home with a packed van and 3 rather upset grandkids and of course the good lady wife.
This is a good start to my 2 weeks holiday.....

It's an automatic gearbox that goes into gear ok and sets off ok but won't drop into 3 rd gear?.
Does anyone know why this has happened just out of the blue.
It's ran perfect and never missed a beat until now.

Very few if any on here know about auto boxes I'm afraid. They are a dark art..:-)
I have had one where a seal failed, and the ATF and the final drive oil mixed. On another the oil strainer broke up and i assume the bits blocked the ATF oil ways up.

Sussex Autoparts quoted me around £800 + vat (already removed) for a full rebuild, seemed very knowledgeable about the T25 box and has no issues getting parts.
I only enquired as my T25 autobox slips a bit in reverse so should be coming out this winter.
I only drive auto's and I really enjoy driving the T25 auto, but for the rest of the summer I need to avoid hills.
I picked up their name from another member.
