AFN Air filter options.

I'm looking to move away from the cone filter I have fitted presently on my AFN, I was considering using the original cylindrical filter that came from the JX.

Obviously with the turbo, inlet mani and Intercooler in the way it's not possible to get it to fit in the OEM position. I was thinking of moving it to the right hand D-pillar, by cutting the bottom out of the flat plate that's there currently and mounting the filter canister through the hole, so that the pipework is effectively in the engine bay and the filter is accessible under the van. I've looked around the engine bay and there are no alternative positions where it could be mounted, other than right between the timing belt cover and the rear of the van but getting it in and out would actually require removing the engine!

This is a basic mock-up of what I'm considering;

Image that set up pushed through this plate, and the pipes appearing behind the battery, then running along behind the flip down oil/coolant access panel;

Yes, that hole needs addressing too, as well as the rampant seam rash in this area.

Any better suggestions for this setup?

Move the battery up front under the RH seat and put a Polo 1.9sdi in the battery tray, run the intake up the right hand void using the VW oval sound killing duct and the petrol snorkel.

im running a petrol air filter sat on the diesel battery tray. Im having built a charge cooler built into the inlet manifold. This means all the air filter/snorkel /air inlet can fit in the factory position

Interesting suggestions, I'm not keen on moving the battery if possible, I'd prefer to keep it next to the high current stuff. I also don't like having wet cells in the cabin due to some previous hair raising experiences.

I'd like to use the original snorkel if possible but my intercooler is in the way so I'd have to mount it on the other side.

Is there a silencer/snorkel available for the right hand duct? Can anyone poke any major holes in my idea of mounting the canister through the plate?

E D I T - After re-reading Titus's post I see he already answered my question. A petrol snorkel would be a clever option. Thanks and sorry for my buffoonery.
