Just had the engine completely rebuilt and have covered 500 miles, so changed the oil and put 4.5 litres in the engine (1.7d KY code) but it's still registering low on the dipstick - this is the correct amount of oil and the engine runs without the idiot light coming on. I don't think they've inserted the oil dipstick tube in correctly but it's been a long time since I looked closely at it before the rebuilt, it seems as if it's been shoved in there with a load of sealant, from memory the bulge bit should actually be pushed in further - please can someone look at my picture and let me know if yours looks to be in a similar position?
If not I guess i'll just yank it out and re seal it the proper way.
On my 1.6D non turbo there is only an 'O' ring and I think I remember the tube does go down a little further than yours has. Did you change the oil filter as well as the oil, and did you pre-fill thehe filter?
Yep changed the oilfilter, pre filled and have gone for a short drive last night, check again this morning and it's below the min on dipstick but no warnings on startup.
was just trying to avoid pulling it out as I don't have a new seal handy but i don't think I have much choice!
When I first got my camper the engine was very oily and dirty so I cleaned it up and put up with w constant tiny leak/seepage from the bottom of the dipstick tube, when I placed an order at Brickwerks after about a year of ownership I added a new 'O' ring and washer to my order and was surprised how easy and successful the replacement was. If I had known how easy it is to change I would have done it sooner. See here ......https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/diesel-dip ... asher.html you need the washer too!!
Why don't you just knock it down to the correct position? To get it out you without damage ideally you will have to drift it out from underneath which will mean dropping the sump etc. A jubilee clip will give you something to hit on. The last 3 blocks that I have worked on had no additional sealing other than the interference fit and none leaked there.
