URGENT- Fridge on mains Carbon Monoxide Alarm going off???

Post by Blakefruid »

Hi All,

I had the fridge on mains over night (as we were supposed to go off on holiday this morning) and this morning the carbon monoxide detector was going off. No gas was on, in fact its turned off at both the tank and the taps in the cupboard. The detector was in the cupboard under the sink (Westy). I've changed the batteries in the detector and tested it in a different location and its working fine (or not detecting carbon monoxide elsewhere). So whats making the carbon monoxide and how can i fix it?

Many thanks,
Blake

Was your starter/leisure battery charging? Apparently than can trigger a CO detector due to the hydrogen given off.

Yep, seen this happen in my van.
Also had CO detector go off when a very polluting vehicle was blowing its exhaust into my van.

BBB (buzzing black box) charger, under the rock n roll seat, charges both batteries when the mains is plugged in. A battery with low electrolyte levels or a dead cell can 'gas' excessively, were either of the batteries overly warm?
Trouble is, almost all batteries nowadays are sealed so you can't top them up..its a pain as good batteries are having their service life shortened because of the inability to top up the cells.

Thanks so much for all the replies- that makes total sense now- especially as the leisure battery has been totally rubbish and not held its charge at all.
The bus is my daily driver so maybe the leisure battery didn't like being constantly charged???

Sorry for not responding sooner but we’ve only just got back to ‘civilisation’- we just decided to get new co alarms and leave the windows open. They went off on a hot day when we left the bus plugged in and the windows all shut when we went out.
Thanks again,
Blakie
