Amateur hour; glow plug relay, loom etc

Post by jerrybus »

Hi

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct bit. Still finishing off fitting an SB engine, but the wiring has got me stumped as I didn't label those removed to replace the glow plug relay which had melted. Would someone take pity and point me in the right direction for a diagram or photo, I can't even work out which one is for the glow plug busbar and I'm scared I will cause another meltdown. I also found a red/black lead from the loom at the alternator which has no connector and no obvious home...Thanks for any help. Cheers

There is a late CS/KY/JX wiring diagram on my website if that's any help. I don't have any for pre-85 vans, though the wires colours will be the same some connectors etc vary. If your engine loom has been overloaded to a point things have burned, TBH I would recommend renewing the lot.

Thanks Andy, I never thought of that. It was one end of the holder where the 50amp fuse for the plugs locates, rather than the wiring, but I suppose you have found that could that mean trouble elsewhere. Can you get replacement looms?

Brickwerks have the relay holders and fuses so you can renew them, probably the relay too if you've not already got a replacement. I have loads here. Last time I checked I think the JX harness was available from classicparts. I suppose I could make a new copy if needed, I have the materials.

PS. Just checked, they're only listing the KY one (no coolant pump I think) and it's really expensive.

Thanks again Andy. I'm a bit stumped, thought I was on the last lap after eight months....more fool me. I'll try the replacement fuse holder and pray. The diagram is a big help, cheers for now although I suspect I'm going to be asking about a loom soon knowing the way this has gone so far.
