Hi there, fitted a pin switch to my sliding door to operate interior lights - all working.
Also bought one of these https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/2519475 ... 25-s-door/ to fit onto the door to depress the switch when the door is closed. It is basically a lump of rubber that arrived without anything to fix it to the door. Can anyone advise on the type of fixing needed (bolt size etc)?

Hi Mark S, mine didn't have the pin switch on the pillar either. How did you get a wire up or down the pillar? Not sure if that makes sense.... Thanks Pat

You will hopefully find that the hole is already there to accept a pin switch (hidden behind a rubber plug, probably). You can buy the switch for a couple of quid from a number of suppliers. It basically connects to earth on the chassis with a self-tapping screw and is easy to fit.
Before you fit it you need to run a wire from the interior light, behind the headlining and down the door pillar to your new pin switch. Gravity will do most of the work for you but you may need to fettle around with a coat-hanger and some sort of hook to get the end to the hole whence you can pull it through. Dropping the headlining and possibly parts of the air duct above the door may be required to gain access from above. Or you could try feeding something up from the bottom.
Wiring it in is simplicity itself. Basically piggy-back onto one of the lines going to the front cab doors using a Scotchlock connector etc. Opening any door triggers the light.
You need a press stud on the sliding door as well otherwise the light will be on even when the door is closed.
