rm212 f fridge tripping on 240v mains hook up

sorry if its old hat, but couldnt find it via search. had my van for a few weeks now and started to get a few jobs sorted. my fridge works fine on gas, but was not connected for mains hook up. installed a single socket via the rcd power supply and fitted a 13amp plug with 3amp fuse to fridge lead. switched on fridge to mains and all was fine. left it connected to mains and after about 6hrs the house electrics blew. reset and went to van where rcd had tripped on van. double checked everything and all appears ok, however as soon as i flick switch to mains it trips. checked gas and thats working fine still. the fact it worked for about 6hrs before tripping is it likely to be an internal fault. any thoughts would be welcome.

The heating element has died ..... It's not a massive job to change them and they are available on eBay
