Gearbox bell house query

Post by sully »

Hi all just after abit of help if any can be offered. I have a 89 doka which originally had a 1.6 TD engine fitted. I got it as a non runner. Someone has fitted an early 1.8 petrol carb engine (DX code I think). I'm considering going back to derv, probably a 1.9 d. But is there an easy way to tell if it still has the original gearbox bell housing ie. would a diesel box fit straight onto the 1.8 petrol?

Thanks

Diesel and petrol bellhousings are different, if it's got a petrol engine fitted it must have a petrol bellhousing as well. That's assuming the petrol engine is a flat four WBX. If an inline four engine from eg a golf has been fitted, that will have a diesel bellhousing.

Thanks for that - just what I'm after! Yes someone has fitted a l4 petrol engine. Hopefully will make fitting a 1.9 engine a lot handier!

Thanks!
