hi all
Finished my EJ25 Subaru conversion a few weeks ago on my 1985 VW T25.
Had the heads skimmed, replaced all gaskets/seals ect new water pump, cambelt ect.
Been running sweet and very happy however I seem to be losing oil somewhere.
Checked yesterday and almost empty!
I got it up on the lift had a REALLY good look and no leaks whatsoever. Dry as a bone.
Also point of note is there is zero smoke form the exhaust. HAve had a friend follow me and tried cold, warm, redline, up hill the lot. Nothing.
So where the chuff is the oil going. I can only think it is getting burnt some where but with no loss in performance and no smoke I am scratching my head here.
Any help/info would be great
Thanks

Re: Oil Loss with no leaks or Smoke
Is the oil fill level definitely correct? Just wondering if its overfilled due to using a shorter sump?

If you think you are losing Oil try taking the sump plug off and measure how much you have when you drain it.
As above, your dipstick might not be reaching down far enough.

Re: Oil Loss with no leaks or Smoke
Thanks guys for the replies
I did a compression test yesterday and all 4 cylinders were around 200psi and all within 5% of each other so I know the rings and valves are OK.
I will drain the oil next and see what I have in there. I believe the EJ25 takes around 4.5L

Re: Oil Loss with no leaks or Smoke
Well I drained the oil and there was around 3.5L in there. So well down but not as bad as I thought
What is strange is the dip stick showed nothing at all so I am thinking the dip stick is not reaching all the way down.
It is defo using oil but I have no idea where as the valve seals have been replaced and compression checks out.

Are you running an oil cooler? - my boat engine takes over 1/2 litre extra oil with the oil cooler and that has very short line runs.
