Cool. I will let you know how I get on. Working in the snow, love it. As for rain I've crossed everything for dry weather.

Re: Gearbox removal questions:
One thing I always do when the box is out , is to weld the clutch slave cylinder nuts to the underside of the bracket, so it's much quicker and easier to undo / do up in the future . Just a couple of spots with the ole fashioned arc welder saves lots of swearing later on in van life

Do the wheels have to come off to fit the wooden crossmember?
Thanks for your support. Much appreciated
just a thought, mv van is panel van height (slightly more than caravelle), not lowered, if lowered you may mot get a crossmember in past tyres, dunno.

UPDATE:
Well rain did stop play for several hours but...
Gearbox off (I passed the wooden brace from the outside in just in front of the rear wheels. I actually used a 3 x 3 fence post. Worked a treat.
Spigot bearing, o ring and felt ring replaced.
All cleaned up ready to refit except -
How do I get the input shaft oil seal out? What is the best technique? I don't have any pics!
Cheers

OK. Thanks. I'll see what I can find. Will probably be easiest to take off the bellhousing but will then need the gasket.itchyfeet wrote:sorry dunno My box was rebuilt by Aidan so I never needed to.

Re: Gearbox removal questions:
You don't need to take the bell housing off, you just pry the old one out and push the new one in IIRC
Wether that is the correct way or not, don't quote me, but that is how I did mine

Thanks for replying. Really appreciated.
Do you remember whether there was a step to prevent it being pushed into the box. That's my issue really.

Re: Gearbox removal questions:
I found a seal remover (Machine Mart sell them for about £7) fetches them out really easy or you can use a self tapping screw and claw hammer at a pinch. New one will go in easy enough.

Great idea of the claw hammer. I tried a self tapper but couldn't get the leverage. Off to find the claw hammer.
Typical though, as only went to Machine mart yesterday to buy a DTI and mag stand (its half an hour away)!

Re: Gearbox removal questions:
I have a specially bent ( for a different job) screwdriver that has the end 10mm bent at 45° that I used
But bending it was a half hour job with heat at the time !
