Started my van for the first time in ages, and while giving the engine a once over I noticed the cambelt is off true and shredding its outside edge.
Obviously it will get a new belt, but anyone know the most likely culprit to cause this?
Its not strictly a JX its a CY with all the bits on.
Ta.
JX cambelt running off.

Re: JX cambelt running off.
It's been a while since I have needed to adjust one so from memory if you look at the support bracket at the rear of the pump ( furthest from belt) you will notice that the holes are slightly elongated this is the adjustment.
Adjust the tracking of the belt by loosening the pump mounting bolts and tilting the pump, it's trial and error until it's correct.
It's all quite self explanatory once you start looking at it.

Re: JX cambelt running off.
Cheers for that MGP , Its got to be ten years now since I last had it all apart, and I've forgotten loads of how it all fits together.
That means the belt must have been on for ten years. Something must have moved more recently because I'm sure I would have noticed that level of wear.

If it's moved recently it should make the job easy as you would be able to see where it was, get yourself a nice bright torch and have a good look round the pump hopefully you will find something.

Ta, will do.
Finding the timing kit in the loft may be more of a challenge.
