Badly worn clutch

Been having a few issues with the bus, 81 Aircooled 2.0l CJ.

It had a new clutch about 3-4 years back (less than 3000 miles), was running great but about 9 months ago reverse started to crunch a bit and then i lost first gear. I checked the slave cylinder which is fairly new, it travels well but gave it a bleed to make sure. Finally it gave up... got the engine out this weekend and found this. Seams to have been not releasing properly...

Before i replace the clutch i want to make sure there isn't a underlying problem causing the wear, not sure but the bearing looks out of square?

Yes it does.
It actually looks like is not seated on the arm correctly too high on the left but it could be the camera angle.

Yes your right, didn't want to disturb the bearing until i had asked advice but there is a lump missing on the left fork...

Of course the follow up post will be - "how do I get the actuating arm off the shaft?"

The only place i hadn't looked yet... thank you - but i have been searching for a release arm, its a 'Clutch Operating Shaft'...

The thing is - why did yours end up like that? Maybe that side wasn't hardened at all? No wonder you were having problems.

I had a feeling it wasn't going to be an easy job to change... not looked into to yet but any tip please let me know

TBH the clutch that came out 3 / 4 years ago wasn't in great shape so that explains a lot!
