'Sucking' Clutch Master Cylinder

When I release the clutch peddle I can hear a 'sucking' from the master cylinder, there is no indication of leaking fluid, and everything seems to be working fine.

Is this some thing to worry about or just a previously un-noticed sound in a new to me van?

presumably you have checked the reservoir level.
It does read like the master cyl has air in it.

Checked the level before original post was just above min line, topped up to midway and will fill toppers tonight. No difference in ducking noise. Is this a new master cylinder job or normal?

Fill up the reservoir, and Just open the clutch slave bleed nipple and the clutch hydraulic system will bleed itself.
Do this first before you buy anything

Clutch now blead through, I was unable to get the air to stop coming out after all the old black fluid had been removed. Does this suggest that the master cylinder needs replacing or is there a seal kit? Everything seems to work fine and I can't see any leaks, is this likely to be a problem in the short term?

The sucking noise remains the same.

If you can't stop it leaking air, then it's time for it to go.
I think there is a seal kit you can get also...might save a bit

Master cylinder replaced, no more noise and the gear change is considerably smoother.
