Pseudo Ignition 12V

Post by itchyfeet »

Today while my leisure batt was disconnect I noticed my voltage sensing split charge relay was powering devices as the engine started.
It occured to me you could add a voltage sensing split charge relay anywhere to get ignition 12V from a permanet 12V supply. :D

Thinking extra lights, car cams etc...
Anything you are worried will drain your battery if left on like stereo.

Obvously this is no good for ignition coil... chicken and egg

Not really, unless your relay in totally adjustable as make and break voltages are generally too high. Some are adjustable but I don't think by very much...
The popular Durite 140 amp relay, makes at 13.3 volts and breaks at 12.8 volt...both above 'standing' battery voltage.
