which Westfalia?

Post by hooja »

Evening,

I need a little help and/or bringing back to earth, before make the wrong choice.
I have sold my current T4 with the plan to westy up. Originally i was looking for a T25 cali hightop but have swung round to the T4 California club, as i really like the layout but I have since started getting carried away with the idea of a merc james cook
It will be used for month plus long trips to the Alps in summer, general weekending and winter Uk mountain trips.
Choices are:
1995 Cali club, with newish mv engineering fitted 1.9tdi (40+mpg) £10-11k
1997 merc James cook, 150k miles, automatic (22+mpg?) £13k?
2000 cali exclusive, 2.5tdi, 95k miles, automatic (35+mpg) £16k

I dont really want an auto but struggling to find many without an auto box.
i would love to know any pros and cons with these choices and any experienced owners opinions. I am so tempted by the james cook but everything is telling me it will be an expensive beast to run with more risk of issues with the mileage and auto box (also concerned about resale price)

convince me I'm right or talk some sense into me, or should i go back to the T25 plan?
many thanks
