Cleaning out fuel tank

Post by Orbit »

Hi as the title says I need to clean my tank thats been sitting around for a couple of years. I'd appreciate any advice , ive tried blowing it out with a air line but there's still the odd cob web a little rust. I've been told that a hand full of small nuts and half a litre of petrol and give it all a good shake then repeat until the fuel comes out clean.
Whats your views people.
Cheers Dave.

There is a few options, such as white vinegar, or mollases mixed with water will it do as well, but if the rust if more than just surface rust your going to need to put bolts/nuts in there, and i don't think a quick shake will do it, i had seen a farmer do it by jacking up one wheel of his tractor and strapped a fuel tank to it, he used gravel instead of bolts, and he left it turning for an hour or 2 at least, depends on how badly rusted it is
