turbo on 1y engine
Hi all just a few questions if anyone can help, just in the middle of swapping my Jx 1.6td for a 1y 1.9d I have changed all the bits and bobs on the engine to fit it in the van .It is now fitted in my van
I have yet to wire it up and put all the hoses on {run out of time} I have kept all the 1Y alternator set up. What I need to know is can I keep the immobilizer on the diesel pump for security reasons as I still have the full car that the engine came out of and if so how to wire it up, will it be ok to fit my turbo off my jx1.6td engine on to it because it has got the D/TD stamped on the block,im only asking because I don't want to blow this engine up. I have already fitted the inlet and exhaust manifolds off the JX engine and any info would be appreciated.

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
When you changed the sump did your block have the oil jets to cool the bottom of the piston crowns? If so then it will be fine to fit the turbo.
If you want to make use of the turbo you will need to use the jx pump as the 1y pump does not have an lda so will not increase the fuel when the turbo creates boost.

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
Thanks for the reply but never new so never checked to see if it had the jet is there no other way to tell without taking the sump back off

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
Unfortunately sump off is the only way to know, you can still run the turbo without them however you would have to be very mindful of the exhaust gas temperature.

OK cheers for that I think I will leave the turbo for another day at least i now no what to do to put it on I just want my van up and running as soon as so jx inlet and exhaust manifold off again 1y back on again. If anybody can tell me if the immobiliser can be rewired into my T25 or do I have to disable it.

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
If you plan on fitting a turbo later just run it on the jx pump and injectors, this will also mean the the throttle cable fits with no messing about with the levers and you won't need to wire in the electronic cold start advance on your 1y pump.

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
Never thought about doing it that way round but now you mention it sound good to me but do I have to use the injectors from JX engine arn't the ones in the 1Y engine the same. This is the first time I have ever worked on a diesel I've only ever worked on petrol engines.cheers for the help

Re: 1Y diesel pump Immobilizer
Most of the 1y's I have worked on have had the 2 stage injectors, the jx pump is fine running them but it's not ideal as the ramp on the cam plate in the pump is set for single stage also the 2 stage injectors are taller than single meaning you would need to bend the hp lines to fit which increases the chances of them fracturing and can cause the coating on them to peel off inside which can cause problems with the injectors

Re: turbo on 1y engine
Just fitted the pump and injector off my JX engine but now got a little problem not sure what it's called but the the little yellow cylinder on the top of the pump is pressing on the hose so I had to loosen the ally keys nuts that hold it down to fit the pump does anybody have any ideas on how to get round this.

Re: turbo on 1y engine
I remember mine doing that now, my temporary solution was to fit some thick washers under the lda (yellow cylinder) that was back in 2010 and it's worked faultlessly since, I'm sure there are more elegant ways of getting round it.

Re: turbo on 1y engine
Cheers again MGP was going to do that but though I would just ask as I didn't want to break any thing.Just bought a endoscope off eBay £6.99 trying it tomorrow if it doesn't rain going though the oil filler hole on the bottom of the sump hope it works as I don't want to take the sump back off again.

Re: turbo on 1y engine
I thought that the oil filter housing on the 1y was the same as the aaz but just had a blank in the port for the turbo oil feed, if yours is different then as I see it you have 2 choices
1. Get an oil filter housing from a aaz or early tdi.
2. Measure how long you need the pipe to be and go to your local hydraulic hose shop with the turbo and oil filter housing and get them to make you an oil feed hose, this is the route I went with my jx to aaz swap as the jx pipe does need bending about to compensate for the additional hight of the engine.

Re: turbo on 1y engine
It does have the blank but the thread is a lot finer like the one on the oil sender the adaptor for the turbo is a lot wider thread since the housing is no good to me I may try and tap it out first to the thread for the turbo pipe and I have just realized that I have to put the thin oil pipe back on the back of the head as it feeds oil to the cam.
