Somewhere after that there is an admission to the effect of "what do you expect from a 120,000+ mile unknown engine"
I note that the alloy conversion sump has no baffles, the EJ25 windage tray is shown in the following pic, but its usefulness may be compromised by the short sump (it must be in the oil, rather than above it?) It rather suggests that all the repeated hard cornering was pushing oil up into the rocker/cam cover area (SOHC heads by the look of them) and it may have uncovered the oil pickup one time too many.
It's all too easy to be critical without seeing the whole picture, of course.
