As part of replacing the inner and outer sill on the drivers side of my van (ie non-sliding door side) I am going to need to take the swing arm mount off and replace it.
Firstly, is it best to remove the swing arm in order to replace the mount? if so...
Secondly, does anyone have any tips or tricks to maintaining the mount position - ie maintaining a reference to get it back in the right place, given that I will be replacing a lot of the metalwork around it at the same time?
From my investigation, the mount itself is attached to the section of the inner sill that joins into the base of the wheel arch. I am replacing the entire inner sill...
thanks
Mark

somwhere in here

do not be tempted to measure and mark stuff etc its not good enough, i would advise removing arm from van then i make up a jig the locates into both the inner and outer arm mounts ,this is then bolted to parts of the van that are staying and triangulated, once satisfied it will only go on without force then remove and chop your old mount of , your new can continually be offered up ads you proceed

Thanks mike - I couldn't find that thread when you pointed me towards it before!
I don't suppose you have a picture of the jig you made up to position the trailing arm mount do you? Or is it different for each job?
Cheers

Thanks Mike
Started stripping down the rear swing arm this evening, so once it's off I will see what there is to attach a jig to.

How did you get on with setting up your jig? I've got the same job to do on my van and welded/clamped some box section and angle to the inner mount and outrigger, but not convinced it's enough!

Come on, let us know how you got on with the mounts/jacking points.

Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Ah, something of cop out I'm afraid.... I bought a new(er) van...
Not specifically because of this issue, just the volume of work vs time vs desire to camp instead of weld...
