Aaz diesel pump

Post by marcgee123 »

Hi all ,I am looking at replacing my aaz diesel pump ,how much should I be looking at paying and where would you recommend to buy from........thanks in advance. The pump I am told needs replacing because the fuel drains back out down the pipe, when it finally starts it runs like a dream does this sound like it needs replacing ,as you will tell I'm not very mechanically minded :(

It seems a most unlikely that your pump needs replacing if the engine runs perfectly once started. These pumps are normally ultra reliable, and even after very high mileages, can be rebuilt by most diesel injection specialists.

It could be a number of things............

If the fuel drains back it could be something as simple as the braided rubber pipes between the injectors letting in air when he engine isn't running. The little rubber cap on no.4 injector is also a usualy suspect. Available from most motor factors for a few quid, and a simple DIY job. (but if you are going to do it, get some advice on here first)

The seal around the throttle spindle is a known candidate too. Although not a DIY job if you're not mechanically minded.

Other causes could be a leak anywhere on the pump or pipework. Usually you can see fuel leaking out with the engine running.

If you have a return line that goes back to the filter - the white thermovalve on the top is known to allow air in and cause the draining back.
If there is a leak between the filter and the pump you are unlikely to see any fuel leak as that section is suction - allowing air to be drawn in but insufficient pressure to allow fuel out. Air leaks on the suction side are the worst to trace without putting pressure into the line.

Hi

If you're in Yorkshire I found the local diesel engineers that rebuilt the pump on my JX to be very reasonable and it hasn't missed a beat since.
