Advice needed please Front Radius rod mounts

Post by Morganman »

Good afternoon,

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the front suspension on my bus and have removed everything and started painting the front end and noticed there is rust around the radius rod mounts. I have taken some photo's after i have used the grinder and paint with rust eater.

Do i need to do anything about this welding etc?
I not seen one to compare how much material has gone there still seems a decent thickness of metal there
Is there a repair section available? or square plate washer which can be welded in?

Thanks,

It nice to see one that was worse than mine. Looking at this i think i may be able to set a new 4mm plate in on the rear and use the front to drill out to the 32mm. The existing hole in the front are still round and well with a rough measure about 35mm. May have caught it just in time. Would be nice to see a rear section made available if this is something which increasing.

Mine was about the same as your first photo there - slightly oval. I just built it up with some weld and ground it to shape. The offside one was worn but the nearside one was still pretty circular.

Mine weren't too bad when I did mine recently, a po had changed them somewhere along the line and coated all the surfaces to help protect them

Measured mine this evening and they are a little oval, 36mm at worst and 33mm at best, thickness of metal is harder to measure but seems fairly even. Been trying to press in the lower wishbone bush. tried placing them in hot water but still would not go. Did the upper wishbone bushes with ease. I still have the lower ball joints to press in as well which look trickly. Still waiting for my new Radius rods to arrive and have ordered some square plate washers to weld in on the inside so may attack the welding at the weekend.
