Jacking and axel stands advice
Im after a jack and stands for my camper, its a pop top holdsworth conversion.
Are the 2tonne kits halfords and screwfix sell good enough?
Or would I be better getting a separate 3 tonne bottle jack and 3 tonne axel stands (are the ratchet type okay?).
I have the jack that came with the van but this needs the jacking points to work (mine are fine now. but...) so would probably use the jack in the van as well.

Re: Jacking and axel stands advice
This is what I used the other day, it's a 3 tonne bottle jack and 2 tonne stands.

This issue I found is that i've had to use hardwood blocks to get enough lift. I think i'll be getting a larger trolley jack in the future.

May look at the 5 tonne bottle jack as has a higher lift.
Only changing fuel lines this time did see your blog post (good stuff).
But will want access for other jobs that pop up.

Why have you used blocks - you haven't unscrewed the top adjuster on the jack at all.

It was dictated by the size of the blocks! If the adjuster was up I couldn't get it under. A right pain.

Bloody hell that looks dicey. The small head on the ram is just asking to split that bit of timber under the chassis.jamesakers wrote:This is what I used the other day, it's a 3 tonne bottle jack and 2 tonne stands.

Re: Jacking and axel stands advice
I have the exact same machine Mart jack linked above and have used it heavily for t3's for 6/7 years. It's ideal as it goes high enough for most jobs. Only time I had a problem is on lowered cars but not an issue For a van

I have one of these... RAC high lift jack, think I got it in halfords.

And I'm another fan of the 6 tonne non-folding jack stands.
I wouldn't use the folding ones...too unstable for me!

Jacking and axel stands advice
Used the jack I have (came with the van) and got those 6 tonne axel stands, very solid feel happy to move about underneath with them in place.
Will need to invest in proper trolly jack soon.

Re: Jacking and axel stands advice
Oooh, they have a sale on! This one would suit me better, as its high enough for the van and low enough for the Mini as well. My last trolley jack got the Mini up on axle stands ok, but couldn't get it down afterwards. Mind you it was only £10 from Woolworths, and it's done well for that price!
