Ignition module

Hi guys wonder if any one can shine some light t25 1980 air cooled 2.0l the module is completely disconnected , runs although bit lumpy put it down to carbs maybe need rebuild , question what does the module do and why would it be disconnected ? Thanks in advance

It's probably the idle stabiliser unit with two plugs on it. They can be unplugged, and joined together to bypass the box. It may be disconnected due to running issues (quite common). It will run fine without it.

Not an Aircooled expert but looking at Google images it seems to be the same as the 1.9 DF wbx. The one furthest from the coil is an amplifier for the hall sender located on the distributor. The unit next to the coil is the idle stabilisation unit. As the name implies it helps maintain steady idle.

Which do you suspect? If you PM me your email address I have a soft copy of the VW carb and ignition test manual. It covers both the amp and idle stab unit.

Would it be possible to obtain a copy of the testing manual from you please? I'm in a position where I need to start learning!!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

'89 panel van, 1.9 DG.
