Hi Guys,
I recently had the petrol tank replaced with a new tank. I filled the tank tonight and probably overdid it a bit as the dial was off the gauge. I then smelt petrol when I stopped and could see petrol dripping underneath. All the rubber hoses were replaced and it's a new tank so what do you think it the most likely cause?
Thanks,
Tim.

When it happened to me it was the breather tank pipes.
Who replaced the tank?

Re: Petrol tank leaking when I overfilled
I was just reading another thread by Titus and he had something similar happen. I thought the breather pipes could be a good candidate.
A mechanic in Hurst replaced the tank. This is the first time since it was done that I tanked completely. Although it was a few months back I'm surprised to have an issue already. You would have thought he would have replaced all the pipes when he changed the tank. I've seen on JK they sell breather pipes specifically but from other threads I've read it sounds like you just need standard fuel pipes? Perhaps he replaced them but not the grommets?
Cheers,
Tim.

It recently happened to me, it was one of the breather hose not connected, there's a good diagram in this thread that may help - https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... k#p8139276" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mine was the one lower down the tank.

if you asked me to change a tank then thats all I would do I would not go looking for extra work
well thats not true I would but many mechanics would not.

I agree.
Did you supply all the parts you wanted fitting?

It's possible to get your hand over the top and check if they are in

Re: Petrol tank leaking when I overfilled
So it turned out that the seal for the fuel sender had been nicked when fitted so it was leaking from there. It was the first time since having the tank replaced that I had completely filled up.
I got them to replace the breather pipes (different garage, I've lost confidence in the previous mechanic) while they were at it so hopefully now we're safe again! Cost me £250 though. Ouch.
