2.6 SA Microbus sudden non-start
Havent used the bus for a fortnight, had to pop out so thought it could do with a run.
Started first time (as ever), short journey and stop for 20 mins. Start again, no problems, gave it a bit of an Italian tune up on the way home, all good.
Didnt lock up (immoblizer disabled/non functioning) because I had to go out again within 10 mins.
Turned the key, generator and oil lights, all ok, no crank. Nothing. Not even a click.
(Cant bump it because I pulled up infront of the garage and drive faces downhill.)
So... all fuses appear ok. Main relay #1 not clicking. Swapped it. Still nothing. No clicks from either of the "206" relays under the left side of the dash (ignition and fuel pump inhibit)
Does all this point to a starter switch sudden failure?
I may have changed it a few years ago when the bus had a load of electrical gremlins, cant recall now.

Unless a starter brush has failed? Again I think that it had a fresh set when I rebuilt it after the reduction gear housing cracked...

Re: 2.6 SA Microbus sudden non-start
Forgot to say that the generator/oil lights go out when I turn the key to position three to crank it.
It probably is the switch, these things are always a rude awakening... tomorrow is another day.

Is the immobiliser unplugged or disabled some other way? Just wondering about the relay on the starter motor circuit.

Re: 2.6 SA Microbus sudden non-start
Sure that I have a spare switch somewhere to confirm.
Immobilizer/alairm has never worked, think it was bypassed by original owner after import to UK.
One key wonder, wiring defo altered because either cab door unlocks all.
These things are sent to test us (I suspect the bus is having a sulk 'cos I have been cycling to work the last two weeks)

Re: 2.6 SA Microbus sudden non-start
No need to spend money.
Removed starter and tested with jump leads and a bit of wire. Clickedy click all ok.
Checked the engine earth strap, things are getting a little crusty that side under the engine, cleaned up the bolt/strap eye etc and greased, then checked the other end where its fixed to the engine mount arm.
Found a bit of copper/alloy corrosion, clean and grease.
Started first time, with barely a turn of the engine, dare say better than before.
Just goes to show.
