1.6td CY oil from exhaust?

Post by steane »

Hello all.

A little background to this problem first is I have what I now know to be a CY 1.6td. On mu last trip it decided to redecorate my tailgate in oil. After a bit of recovery and a bit of digging it turned out I needed a new turbo. I decided to go for the kkk turbo from the jx instead of the CY's garrett. I replaced the turbo, the feed, the drain and the exhaust j pipe.

The exhaust isnt tight enough yet, but I decided to fire up the engine, after priming, to see if all was well. I had no leaks when started, which was nice as on last attempt the feed leaked. I did get A bit of smoke when I rev and oil splatters on my trainers from the exhaust. After 10 mins of idle and upon closer inspection I noticed a small bit of oil on the floor. The oil seems to be coming from where the turbo meets the exhaust.

Anybody got any ideas on why this may be? All parts used were new btw.

This happened on my TDi until I readjusted the actuator lever as it was too short and not generating boost at idle, this essential as the turbo relies on a little bit of pressure to keep the oil from coming past the 'seals' (they aren't really seals) and back to the sump.

Check to make sure your wastegate isn't stuck open or your Vacuum hoses aren't holed etc.
