Hi all,
Hope someone can make sense of what I mean here being my usual vague self. The van, 1990 1.6 jx engine just went through her latest CVRT ( the irish M.O.T) and almost passed first time round for the first time in ages. Basically he said it failed as it was there was a brake line not secure with its clip coming from the T-piece at the back and could get caught by part of the engine mount, no bother went away put in a new clip all good, line secure. Brought it back for a visual retest (he didn't put it up on the ramp as you can see the ramp on the screens in the waiting room so I am guessing he just pulled himself under the van and could see the issue from there) and the same tester said that the clip wasn't the problem it was that 2 or 3 bolts from the engine mount were missing. So went home again last night had a nose around under the van and I can see that there is 2 bolts missing from the driver side mount on the right. So I rang him today to ask was it those two bolts he meant and he started going on about the mount at the back of the gearbox is torn and it just needs the bolts there to tighten it up. He kept saying it was only a small thing but couldn't be any clearer.
So my question is when I am under the van and look up I am trying to make sense of everything. The visual didn’t take him more than 10 minutes so the issue is obviously staring me in the face and I can’t see anything that looks torn. Where is the gearbox mount? Is it that cylinder looking thing? What should it look like?

Re: Gearbox/Engine Mount
When the CVRT came out I took my camper to a fella just outside Thurles , he failed my camper.... as I had a missing switch on the dash the blank dropped out some how ? so i popped in a spare switch that was for fog or front spots, as nothing worked when he pressed it therefore some must be faulty therefore fail ; I now take the camper to a fella on the dock road Limerick no problems ,there are plenty of places that you could go to next time ... Back to gear box mounting , if you look under the rear of the camper you will see the handbrake cables coming off each wheel the cables go either side of the gearbox mount as they run to the front to the hand brake lever.
The mount should have X4 bolts fixing it down there could well be a cable on one of the bolts running up to the chassis... hope that helps tried to explain best I could

Re: Gearbox/Engine Mount
Ya man, I am in Cork, being going to the same fella for the last 5 years and only this year and last year they started pointing out things that they had ignored in the past. Thanks for your help I will be home in a few hours and I will have a look and see. I think we are thinking of the same part alright and if so that has all its bolts. I will start putting up pictures later and maybe people can spot things I cant. Thanks again I appreciate it

Is this the gearbox mount? it has the 4 bolts in no hassle and cant see anywhere that it has sheared around it or anywhere around it that looks like it needs bolts?

Yes that's it. Is the rubber bush still bonded to its outer jacket ok? It should have a couple of windows in it to allow some vertical compliance, but if it has delaminated it will be (theoretically) possible for the gearbox to wag from side to side.

Hey Silverbullet, thanks for responding. Ya the rubber bush looks fine no issues with that from what I can see. I am going to ring the test centre today and see if I drive up will the point out what they are on about. Hopefully they will!
