Hi all,
My bus has a 2 speed fan but it only works on low speed. There is no voltage when i touch the multi meter prongs on the middle connector and high speed connector and it doesnt work when i bridge it with a wire but the low does and also works in normal driving.
My question is; is this an earthing issue? I've cleaned the contacts on the fan plug/switch and makes no difference the crown earths look a tad crusty but they are bitch to get at and would rather change the fan than fanny on with the earths.

And you should still clean the earths otherwise you run the very real risk of having reliability issues as well as unwanted heat in the dash wiring.

Re: 2 Speed Fan
For the 2nd speed on the radiator fan there is a relay attached to the interior body work behind the fuse box with a 50 a fuse. I would check to see if the fuse is blown or if not if the relay is working. If both the fuse or relay are working then check wiring to the fan and back to engine fuse box.
I had the same issue on my fan and after a lot of testing I found I had a break in the cable from the engine fuse box.

That relay also suffers from similar problems to the earth crowns in terms of poor connections. Its higher up and therefore easily neglected but corrosion eventually makes its mark. Shine a torch above earth crowns and you should see it. Unseating and reseating the relay may be enough. Mine would continually blow the fuse. A clean up solved it but certainly if the relay no longer works (you can test it off the vehicle), the high speed will be inoperative. Could be rad switch too or even both.

Cool I'll check the relay. I saw it there stuck up in the corner and thought it could be something to do with the rad wiring.
