Cutting out when hot and cold
Started today, runs perfectly then cuts out seems to be starved of fuel,so I've replaced the inline filter, made no difference, replaced the pump no difference, the coil is new but the low tension connectors were green, cleaned em up and it ran perfectly for about 10 minutes then cut out and the temperature gauge has stopped working is this just coincidence???
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Is there a filter under the van?

Re: Cutting out when hot and cold
As above, lots of info around on the various possible causes.
The fuel filter is under the van, right-hand side front, near the tank. This should be the only filter - if there's one in the engine bay, get rid of it as a fire risk - it's not original and shouldn't be there.
There is also a tiny cone filter inside the fuel inlet to the carb that can be (gently) extracted for cleaning with a screw.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean - there's a certain kind of problem (the cheap simple ones) that I look forward to fixing, and even miss when the van's being too reliable. I think it's that kind of mild masochism that leads us to the point in life where driving about in a 30-year-old van every day seems like a good idea.

Yes its nice when the fix is cheap and works, though it can take time and effort to find the problem as you'll read if you look through the stalling/cutting out threads...

Re: Cutting out when hot and cold
All sorted, seemed like a fuel issue at first as the ole'girl seemed to be hunting at low rpm,l convinced myself it was the pump so off to Brickwerks for a pump, popped it on,no difference, checked the tank for debris and bypassed the tank by running a pipe from the pump inlet to a jerry can, still no better, now a few months ago I replaced the coil, leads, plugs, dizy cap, rotor arm,so I've been able to substitute new for old, still no better, now all it could really be is wiring, hall sensor or the ignition amp,so did a few checks to wires and earths, all ok,back to Brickwerks this afternoon and plumbed for the ignition amp and mi old vans purring again,oh put some new fuel lines on as a matter of course as l hadn't yet replaced them.So I'm sat here having a few sherberts a happy days.
Thanks for all the responses
See you on the road sometime.

Re: Cutting out when hot and cold
Happy days, nice and simple fix after all (and not too wallet-burning).
Have a good Summer with the van - we're off for our first proper trip next week, hopefully working up to a European jaunt later in the year.
Cheers
